Story Transcript:

He: חולף על אבי הגל של משא ומתן, משובב של שוק הכרמל, את רחש המוכרים, בניינים המ מֶּשַּׁכִּים בשמש, המרחק והמשאלות. בידו כרית פלאפל, הזרע האחרון של מיוחדת ימי השטנים. הצפיפות של האנשים תוקפת אותו, רוחשת סביבו, מנכייה כמו חיית שדה בניסיון להשימו מרוב האנשים הבאים וההולכים.
En: My father passes the wave of the Gal market, the lively hub of the Carmel market, with the murmur of the vendors, the buildings basking in the sun, the distance and the requests. In his hand is a falafel pita, the last offspring of the special days of the stall. The density of the people overwhelms him, swirling around him, trying to disappear like a wild animal in the midst of the people coming and going.

He: "אי, סליחה!" אwords קל של אשה מחליק מאחוריו, בזמן שהזרוע שלו, אשר נשאת את כרית הפלאפל, נוערה מניסיון האישה להתמנע ממנו. אבי מרגיש את הפיתה מתחילה להתפורר מתוך היד, הטחינה טפטפת, הסלט חולף, והפלאפל... הם יורדים, יורדים ונוחתים בדיוק על הנעלים החדשות שלו.
En: "Oh, sorry!" a soft voice of a woman slips behind him, while her arm, holding the falafel pita, accidentally brushes against him. My father feels the pita starting to crumble in his hand, the tahini dripping, the salad passing, and the falafel... they fall, falling and landing exactly on his new shoes.

En: He has a moment of longing for rest, where he wishes to continue walking as if nothing happened, but they are there, they cannot be ignored. He tries to inspect his shoes, so that no passerby would notice what is happening. My father spoils the scattered falafel on the shoe sole, trying to divert the salad and tahini away from the walking path.

He: האמת המאסרת היא שאין לו מה לעשות. אין מתנגנות, אין מסילות. הפלאפל, הטחינה, הסלט... הם בהחלט נעלי המובחר שלו. חסר הברירה, הוא מניח כרית הפלאפל החצי מתוך היד מחדש בשלבשלוב שלה וממשיך ללכת. תרועת המכירה חוזרת אליו, המאמר, המסילומק׉. הנעליים, למרות הפלאפל הנופל, עדיין.
En: The cruel truth is that he has nothing he can do. No napkins, no rails. The falafel, the tahini, the salad... they are definitely his finest shoes. With no choice, he places the half-eaten falafel pita back into his hand, reshaping it and continues walking. The calls of the sellers return to him, the offer, the discount. The shoes, despite the fallen falafel, still.
