Story Transcript:

He: תל אביב פרחה תחת לחשים של מלחמה בין אורו של השמש להתקרממות האספלט.
En: Tel Aviv flourished under the whispers of war between the light of the sun and the rising asphalt.

He: אבי, זקן בפרק קרח שמש לה בעדשות משקפי השמש שלו, סירב להתרפות למראה העיר הגועה בחום.
En: Avi, an elderly man with lenses in his sunglasses, refused to succumb to the sight of the city wilted in the heat.

He: הגיע למהדרין - מסעדה שחושפת את פניה ברחוב פרישמן, והתיישב בתוך כתלי פיג'מה של שזיפים וקרמבולה.
En: He arrived at Mahadrin, a restaurant unveiling itself on Frishman Street, and settled within the walls of figs and cream.

He: "נפלא, מתאבן חינם," הוא שאל את ברמן החיוור, שניגש אליו עם מחייך בצורה שלא הוסיףה ביטחון.
En: "Excellent, a free appetizer," he asked the pale bartender, who approached him with a smile that didn't instill confidence.

He: הברמן הושיט צלחת שגעגעה לימי קיץ שחלפו.
En: The bartender offered a plate longing for bygone summer days.

He: "נבחרת חמוצים של המלך".
En: "The king's pickled olives."

He: אבי שמע את מקרן הרמזור הבוכה ברחוב, חייכה במבע אמיתי ונישנש הכול.
En: Avi listened to the horn of a crying traffic light outside, smiled with a genuine spark, and sipped everything in.

He: השלילה הצפה בצורה מסוימת את התקווה, אך אבי לא התמעט למרגע.
En: The negative outlook somewhat obscured hope, but Avi did not diminish for a moment.

He: במקום להתבייש, הוא נשמע את קול הכרכום והקרנג'ו: "אז נראה कום יחגוג היום את ניצחון החיים?
En: Instead of shying away, he heard the clinking of cutlery and glasses: "So, shall we celebrate life's victory today?"

He: "הרהוריו התעקשו לדפדף כדף שלא הותיר את התמרין, חלט כי כאן ועכשיו תהיה הנקמה.
En: His thoughts persisted to flip through a page that didn't leave room for hesitation, deciding that now would be the time for vengeance.

He: – "אז נבחרת, תאבן והר״ש שלי?
En: "So, bartender, pickle and my salty dish?"

He: " – הוא ביקש צלחת מלוח.
En: he requested.

He: ברמן הציץ במבט מופתע ואז התפשט חיוך מרתק, מחיא בידו למטבח בדרישה של עוד צלחת עם "תאבן חינם".
En: The bartender glanced in surprise, then a fascinating smile spread, clapped his hand to the kitchen with a demand for another plate with "a free pickle."

He: החיים, חשב אבי, למדו להפתיעו תמיד בדרך או באחרת.
En: Life, Avi thought, had a knack for surprising him one way or another.

He: אך היו לו תמיד פתרונות בכיס - מלוח, חמוץ, מתוק או מריר.
En: But he always had solutions up his sleeve - salty, sour, sweet, or bitter.
