Story Transcript:

He: סיפור קצר, ברמה פשוטה:מעבר לשערי ירושלים, בשכונה הדתיות שבה, שרה נפגשת עם דוד ורחל, שניים מחבריה המקרובים, במטרה להסביר לזר מארץ קרה, בתוך בית קפה חמימה.
En: A short story, in simple terms: Beyond the gates of Jerusalem, in the religious neighborhood, Sara meets with David and Rachel, two of her close friends, in order to explain to a foreigner from a cold country, inside a cozy café.

He: הזר, מאוד דייקן, הגיע ממדינה של תודעת זמן קפדנית.
En: The foreigner, very precise, came from a country with a meticulous sense of time.

He: שרה מתחילה את השיחה.
En: Sara starts the conversation.

He: "לנו, ישראלים, זמן הוא לא משהו מוגדר בצורה נקודתית.
En: "For us, Israelis, time is not something defined in a punctual way."

He: " היא מרמה בחיוך.
En: She smiles.

He: דוד נוגע בידה, מחזק את מה שאמרה ומוסיף: "חיילים שאוחרים בקמה של היום, סטודנטים שמגיעים עוד 'חמש דקות' להרצאה".
En: David touches her hand, reinforcing what she said and adds, "Soldiers who are late for the morning shift, students who arrive 'just five minutes' before the lecture."

He: רחל מחייכת, מביטה בזר, ומספרת שהחיילים שלנו יעזרו עד הסוף לאשה המתקשה לעלות לאוטובוס.
En: Rachel smiles, looks at the foreigner, and tells him that our soldiers will assist a woman struggling to get on the bus until the end.

He: הזר מחייך במרימה, ואז שאלה עולה בעיניו.
En: The foreigner smiles with understanding, then a question arises in his mind.

He: "אם אף פעם אתם לא ודאים כאשר תגיעו, איך אתם מחווים את החיים?
En: "If you are never sure when you'll arrive, how do you experience life?"

He: " שרה, דוד ורחל מחכים יחד, מבינים את התמוהה שלו.
En: Sara, David, and Rachel wait together, understanding his wonder.

He: את האמת, הם אף פעם לא חשבו על זה במילים.
En: Truth be told, they never thought about it in words.

He: עובר שעה, שניים.
En: An hour passes, two.

He: הם ממתינים, שותים קפה, מדברים בנושאים אחרים.
En: They wait, drink coffee, talk about other things.

He: מדי פעם, משתמשים במשלים ישראליים שמעט אפשר לתרגם לאנגלית, ומנסים להסביר כי אילו הזמן לא היה נגמר, לא היינו עושים שום דבר.
En: Occasionally, they use Israeli proverbs that are a bit challenging to translate into English, trying to explain that if time hadn't run out, they wouldn't do anything.

He: לסיום, מעניקים לו זמן לחקור את העיר בפני לוח הזמנים שלהם, והוא עוזב במחייכה עמוקה, אחרי למד את המשמעות של זמן ישראלי.
En: In conclusion, they give him time to explore the city within their schedules, and he leaves with a deep smile, having learned the meaning of Israeli time.

He: שלא נקודתי, אלא תרחישי, ובעיקר - אנושי.
En: Not punctual, but contextual, and mainly - human.
