Obstacle thoughts: thoughts that are perceived obstacles to the goal or destination you want to achieve.
- Purpose, direction, and reason for what we are doing with our lives
Obstacle thoughts strengthen themselves by providing evidence through your own actions
Through my actions, the thought becomes more believable the more I think it, fell it, and embody it.
How do we change this?
You can not do this in your head!
When you are in a rush to overcome your current situation you miss out on the skill set that comes from overcoming your own current thinking.
In order to think differently, you have to know what you are thinking now.
The realizing and overcoming of the Obstacle Thought is the objective - not achieving the outcome!

Your sobriety and recovery must come first or everything else won't even exist - let alone come second. How are you prioritizing yourself? I utilize the four components of life: physical, emotional, mental, & spiritual to structure my addiction recovery.

Sometimes others are to busy seeing who you were to see who you've become. Sometimes you are to busy seeing your old self in your head or in the mirror to see the new you. Are your actions, behaviors, attitudes, and words conveying you have changed?
You are already making drastic changes in every area of your life because you are fully embracing sobriety and recovery - now, you know it is time to turn it up. You have realized long before now - continuing with old behaviors, attitudes, and actions, while talking the way you always have will only inhibit your growth. It can block the growth you experience, the growth you see and especially what others experience and see.
A new you is already in you. A newer you blossoms out of the new you and soon a newest you will chrysalis from that version. Do not let the caterpillar you were get in the way of the butterfly you are today.

This is a page from a book my therapist uses for our topics on our Monday night meetings. This was the excerpt for April 29th.
We can define who we are by getting to know ourselves in sobriety and recovery. This means we get to re-evaluate what we stand for, our moral character, our belief systems, what we will enjoy, and what we won't tolerate any longer.
We can also stop judging others by no longer judging ourselves so harshly or at all. When we judge others, we find something we do not like in them.
This passage has many layers, and I look forward to covering them with you in this week's episode.
Getting to know Myself
Today, I will cease looking for my face in other people's faces.
If I want to know who I am, I will observe myself in action, watching the inner workings of my mind.
No one has better access to me than me. If I don't know who I am and what I'm about, I certainly can not expect anyone else to tell me.
When I seek to be defined by others, I live from pillar to post, from one person's idea of me to a job description to a title or role to another person's idea of who I am.
I lose my center and seek to find it in people, places, and things outside myself.
Who I am is a changing thing. There is not one version of me to get to know and, finally, be done with it. I let myself change and grow.
I befriend my changing self
The more peculiar his own man's character, the better it fits him.
Thank you so much for listening and for being a part of this wonderfully supportive community. We are no longer living in the shadows!
