第6课

1. I want to go to a bar and unwind a little. 我想去酒馆喝点酒，放松一下。
unwind 是指“放松心情”。
不过，go overboard and drink too much “没有节制地猛喝酒”就不好了。go overboard 是“走极端（特别指狂热爱好）”

2. I'm ready to put away a few drinks. 我可以多喝几杯了。
put away 是“吃（掉）”“喝（掉）”的意思，drink or eat 都可以使用。
I'd give anything for beer. 我只要啤酒就行了。
到了啤酒屋，一坐下来就说 Let's have a big mug of draft beer！来一大杯生啤（扎啤）！
酒上来了，就开始 Cheers! Bottoms up! 干杯！干杯！

3. I make a toast. 我干杯。
第四章做饭第3课学过 toast 是吐司面包。这里 toast 是“祝酒”“干杯”的意思。
“干杯”还有一个惯用语是 drink a toast。
“提议举杯敬酒”常用 propose a toast，如 Let me propose a toast.
前面说了，干杯时就说 Cheers! 如果想说“祝贺……而干杯”是 Here's to...，比如 Here's to your success. 祝贺你的成功而干杯。

第五章 下班以后

第5课

1. She stops at the supermarket on the way home. 她回家途中顺便（顺道）去超市。
“顺道去……”是用 stop at 或 stop by。
“回家路上，回家途中”是 on the way home 或 on the way back，不过用 back 的时候，不一定都指“回家”。

2. The supermarket closes at 9:30. 超市在9:30关门。
“关窗户”“关门”可以用 shut 或 close，但是商店“关门（结束当日营业）”只能用 close。
close down 则是“关门大吉”“闭店”的意思。
这家商店每天的营业时间从十点到七点。 This shop is open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. every day.

3. The bookstore in front of the station is already closed. 地铁站（车站）前面的书店已经打烊了。
“已经打烊（关门）”是 already closed，“还开着门（还在营业时间）”是 still open。
那家商店二十四小时营业。That store is open 24 hours a day.
指“地铁站对面”可以用 across the street from the station。

第4课

1. I take my wallet out of my pocket. 我从口袋里拿出钱包。
take A out of B 是“从B取出A”的意思，所以如果说“从后面的裤袋拿出……”就说 out of my back pocket。
wallet 是“钱包”。专放零钱/硬币的小钱包，在美国叫 coin purse，在英国叫 purse，在美国purse常用来指女用手提包 handbag。
如果想说“我从口袋里拿出手机。”就是 I take my mobile(cell) phone out of my pocket. 

2. I pay some money to the cashier. 我去收款台付钱。
pay 可以改为 give —> I give some money to the cashier.
也可以说 I pay some money at the checkout counter.我去收款台付钱。
cashier 是“出纳”。
“买东西付款”是 pay for，可以说 I paid for some groceries. 我付了一些食品杂货的钱。
在餐厅付钱的话是 I pay the bill. bill 是“账单”。

3. I receive my change. 我收下找回的钱。
这句话里的 receive 可以用 take 或 get 代替 —> I take my change. 或 I get my change. 
change 是“找钱，零钱”， small change，loose change 是指“零钱”。
在给小费国家，比如美国，坐出租车时常把找的零钱当作小费，说 Keep the change. 不用找钱了。

4. I put some coins into my wallet. 我把一些硬币放进钱包。 
put 可以用 drop 代替 —> I drop some coins into my wallet.
也可以说 I put the change into my wallet. 我把找的钱放进钱包。
现在很多用信用卡，可以说 I put my credit card into my card holder. 我把信用卡放入卡片夹。 credit card “信用卡”，card holder “卡片夹”。

第五章 下班以后

第3课

1. I get a haircut. 我去理发。
cut 当作动词使用时，就说 I have(get) my hair cut.
“洗头发”是 I have my hair shampooed.
“烫头发”是 I have my hair permed.
“理发店”是 barber's 或 barber shop，“美容院”可以说 beauty parlor 或 beauty shop 或 beauty salon。

2. I meet my girlfriend. 我和女朋友约会。
meet 是“见面”“约会”的意思。
约会时有时候会 We walk arm in arm (hand in hand). 我们手牵手散步。
我和女朋友（男朋友）出去。 I go out with my girlfriend (boyfriend).
date“约会”之后，我送女朋友回家。 I take my girlfriend home.

3. I go window-shopping. 我去逛街。
也可以用动词 window-shop，如 I window-shopped at the shopping mall(center). 我到购物中心逛街。
还可以用 look around，browse around，可以说 I looked(browsed) around the department store. 我在百货商场逛逛。
现在我们常常“（上网）浏览”也是用 browse around，“上网浏览”就是 browse around the website。

第五章 下班以后

第2课

1. Going straight home isn't much fun. 直接回家真没趣。
after work “下班后，收工后”直接回家的话， not much fun “真没劲”。
或许有人会 have something cold to drink “喝点冰凉的（啤酒）”，或者 go to the fitness club “去健身房”，又或者 do some exercise to get rid of stress “去运动以消除疲劳”，get rid of 是“去掉”“除掉”。

2. I do aerobics. 我做有氧运动。
aerobics 就是“有氧运动”。

“我做运动。”可以说 I do workout. 或 I do exercise. 或 I work out. 或 I exercise. 都可以。

“我去健身房。” I go to the fitness club. 或 I go to athletic club. 或 I go to gym.

3. I go to an English class. 我去上英语课。
也可以说 I attend an English class. 注意：attend 后面不加介词 to。
也可以说 I take an English class. 
有时工作之余去上课，难免会觉得 It's a drag going to school. 去上课是一项累赘。drag 是“拖累”，“累赘”。
但是，You should keep at it. 你应该继续努力。

第五章 下班以后

第1课

1. Almost everyone has gone home. 几乎所有的人都回家了。
“几乎所有的人”是 almost everyone 或 almost people。不过，everyone 是单数形，因此后面要用 has gone home；people 是复数形，所以用 have gone home。
gone home 可换为 left for home。left 是 leave “离开”的过去式。
另外，如果想用people的话，有一个要注意，可以说 almost all the people，而不能说 almost the people。

2. It's getting dark outside. 外面天越来越黑了。
get dark 是“天变黑”“变暗”，也可以说 become dark。
之前也学过，outside 和 out 可以通用。
“漆黑”是 pitch-dark，如 I just noticed that it's pitch-dark outside the window. 我刚注意到窗外一片漆黑。

3. Let's call it a day. 今天工作到此为止，收工吧。
call it a day 是“结束一天的工作”，等于 It's time to stop working.
The clock just struck five. 5点的钟声刚响起。
要下班了，在办公室里可能会听到同事们说——
I've been very busy today. 今天真忙。
I'm tired from sitting down all day long. 我整天埋头工作快累死了。

第四章 家务

第13课

1. I have to check the balance of my bank account. 我要查一下银行户头的余额。
balance 是“余额”, bank account 是“银行账户”。
以前我们还会说 I don't have much money on me today. 我今天身上没带太多钱。
可现在却是使用“电子支付” E-payment，没什么机会用到“现金” cash ，我们在手机上随时随地 take a quick look at the balance“查一下余额”。
“剩下5000元。” The balance is five thousand yuan.
“存款”是 deposit，“提款”是 withdraw。

2. Oh,(no!) I'm in the red this month again. 啊，这个月我又透支了。
be in the red 是“透支”“赤字”。也可以说 be in the hole，比如 I'm two thousand yuan in the hole this month. 我这个月透支了2000元。
每月支付房屋贷款 pay my house loan every month。
要想不透支，我要怎么做呢？How can I manage?

3. How can I survive until next payday. 到下次发薪日之前我怎么活下去呢？
第三章第12课学过 payday 是“发薪日”。survive 是“生存”“活（下来）”。
“（到发薪日）还有4天” Four more days to go.
“靠微薄的薪水生活” Live on a small salary.
“消减吃饭（娱乐）费用” cut down on food (entertainment) expense。
要想“收支平衡” make ends meet 可真不是件容易的事啊！

第四章 家务

第12课

1. ABC department store is having a sale this week. 这礼拜ABC百货公司正在做特价销售。

sale 是“特价销售”，“举行（特价销售）”一般用 have。

“大特价”就是 big sale，“岁末特价”是 end of the year sale，“圣诞节特价销售”是 Christmas sale。

2. All the sale items are gone. 所有的特价销售品都卖完了。

“特价销售品”是 sale items，或 items on sale。

item （单数）是“一件商品，一件物品”。

“售完”是 sold out。

美国人要搬家时，常常会在车库或者院子里廉价出售不同的家具，这种叫 garage sale 或 yard sale。garage 是“车库”，yard 是“院子”。

“抢购特价销售品” fight for an item on sale。

3. They sell some meat and fish at a discount. 他们在减价卖一些肉和鱼。

at a discount “打折，减价”。

“打折销售”还可以用 at a bargain，或者简单地说 cheap。

关于折扣的说法，“打三折”是 at a 30%（thirty percent） discount，也可以说 70%(seventy percent) off。

“价格便宜的”是 cheap，“昂贵的”是 expensive，如果说“（价格）合理”是 reasonable。reason“理由”。

第四章 家务

第11课

1. My shoulders feel stiff and my back aches. 我肩膀酸后背疼。
feel stiff 是“僵硬”“酸痛”，ache 是“疼痛”。
我们有时候会因为劳动过度而感觉“浑身疼痛” I'm aching all over.
真想有个人来给我按摩肩膀。I want somebody to massage my shoulders.
可惜旁边没有人，只好“自己伸伸手脚” stretch my arms and legs。 

2. I'm a little tired. I think I'm going to lie down for a while. 我有点累。想要躺一下。
我累了。 I'm tired.  有点累 a little tired
我需要休息一下。I need a break.
稍微躺一下 lie down for a while
打开电视 turn on the TV
一边看电视边一打瞌睡 take a nap while watching TV
过一阵子醒来，
去看看冰箱里还有什么东西 check to see what's in the refrigerator。refrigerator 是“电冰箱”，也会说 fridge。

3. The expiration date has already passed. 已经过了期限（保质期）。
expiration date 就是“期限”“保质期”“有效期”，食品、药品、租赁期限都可以用。第2章第10课学过。
“期限过了”动词一般是用 pass 来表示。
过了期的食品，比如面包、鱼，可以说 day-old bread 或 day-old fish。

第四章 家务

第10课

1. I hang the laundry out to dry. 我把洗好的衣服挂在屋外晾干。
hang...out to dry 是“挂在屋外晾干”的意思。
要洗的衣服除了 laundry 也可以说 clothes 或 wash，这句话如果说成“我把洗好的衣服挂在晾衣绳上晾干。” 就是 I hang the wash(clothes/laundry) on the clothes-line. 
衣服干了，要收进来，“收进（衣服）”是用 take in 或 bring in，可以说 I take(bring) in the laundry.

2. I'd better hang the bedding out in the sun today. 我今天最好把棉被晾在屋外晒晒太阳。
今天天气很好。It's sunny day. 
今天是晾棉被的好日子。 Today's a good day to hang the bedding out.
我们会拍拍（棉被）把灰尘掸出来 hit it to get the dust out。 dust 是“灰尘”“尘土”。
让棉被蓬松起来 fluff it up。fluff 是动词“把……弄蓬松”“变蓬松”的意思，fluff 的形容词 fluffy 就是“毛茸茸的”“蓬松的”。

3. I iron the shirt. 我熨衬衫。
iron 当动词就是“熨烫（衣服）”“熨平”，做名词是“熨斗”。
第一章学过，如果早上换衣服时才发现要穿的衬衫都是褶 The shirt is wrinkled. 那可真是有点烦呐。
如果是“新熨好的衬衫”就是 a freshly ironed shirt。 
iron 还可以用 press 来代替，说 I pressed my blouse and skirt. 我熨了上衣和裙子。 press 的常用义项是“按，压”，还有“熨”。
“熨衣架”是 ironing board(table)。
